Diane Herried's Blog

Loyal readers and guests, I would like to pass on the line to Diane Herried's blog.  She is currently campaigning for the position of Supervisor #4 in the Town of Vernon.  Diane and I have coordinated much of our campaign efforts.

She has some very good thoughts on her blog:  http://dherried.wordpress.com/

  1. I write to you because these attacks on some of the most dedicated public servants this Town has EVER seen upsets me, way beyond, the simple fact that I greatly disagree with your position. I suppose what disheartens me most is that this is really an example of how your side sees the world versus how I would.
You feel that, regardless of what is the best for everyone, regardless of the facts, regardless that you are in the minority, you are allowed to do whatever you like because you think you are right. You claim that the majority of the residents of the Town of Vernon are behind you just because more folks speak up at the Town Board meetings. Don’t you realize that only the residents that are upset about an issue show up for those meetings.
That is ridiculous to claim that you represent the majority of the resident of the Town of Vernon. You, and your fellow Big Bend representatives, yell that the residents are enraged about this, but all my Town of Vernon friends just shrug off this ridiculous movement The only residents that are really enraged are those that just have an overt reluctance to accept change, my guess is because they don't know the first thing about government financing, economics, or even where the money that pays for a Fire department or DPW department really comes from. I don't mean to go on for so long, but I have spent months listening to you and your cronies yell and scream at people who don't agree with them, and I have better things to do, but someone needed to speak out about it.

    Thank you.

  2. I appreciate your comments. It's about time someone who likes this board got involved in the dialogue. I agree that Tom Bird, Bill Craig, Fred Michalek, Rodell Singert and Kurt Barikmo are dedicated public servants! They are doing the best they can, and, I’ll admit, not everything they’ve done has turned out bad.

BUT, the way in which they conduct business is completely unacceptable! I’ve been called a liar. They’ve made up half truths to justify their position. Just this week they laid off two particular members of the DPW WITHOUT even consulting with the DPW director! This is NOT leadership! They bully members of the community, they degrade those that disagree with them. I could go on and on.

I challenge you to find any record of me degrading any of the members of this board! I have repeatedly attacked their actions, lack of respect for the people, lack of true leadership, but never have I attacked any of them like they have attacked me personally.

  3. Oh by the way, I have never yelled at anyone about any of these issues. Where do you get this from? It's absurd. I really hope you're in the minority. I can't believe any resonable person would want their town's business conducted the way our board conducts business. Sigh!

  4. Hello Everyone,

I find it funny and ironic that someone leaves a multi-paragraphed blog about how the content of this blog is "wrong" viewpoint and then does not leave his or her name. Unless you choose to stand up and argue a point and be counted, you are in the minority. This minority of people are just a small group who are the ones that care only about themselves or their interests and not the greater good. For example, without discussion, they removed two DPW workers because they claimed they were listening to "the people of the town of Vernon." Who are these people? Why can't we get them on record? The reality is that they are the ones doing things "behind closed doors" in closed sessions making decisions that effect all of us.

So, until you talk without hiding behind an anonymous posting, we can only chalk you up to part of the "closet minority" doing things in the dark of night instead of in the daylight for all Vernon residents to see.

  6. Comment by Carol Shea sent via email:

I too agree with Mike and Jason, anyone that hides behind anonymous should not be taken seriously.

I have watched this current town board and the actions they have taken, and can not agree with what they are doing. They hide behind half truthes and closed door meetings so the citizens of Vernon have no insight into what is really going on.

I have watched Mike at meetings and he conducts himself with total professionalism, yes he is frustrated and so are a lot of us. I have NEVER heard him raise his voice or yell at anyone.

I have been a resident of Vernon for over 37 years and this board has been the most destructive and spiteful board I have ever witnessed here in the Town of Vernon. I served on the Town board, I know that the board is to answer to the citizens honestly, even though not everyone will agree on all the issues, but to take the most crucial issues that face this town behind closed doors is totally unacceptable.

Sorry I rambled on so long. Thank you Mike, Marilyn and Diane for stepping up to the plate.

    Carol A Shea
