What the Vernon Town Board has done regarding the joint Fire Department will have an extreme impact on our Community. I believe it is imperative that we ask many questions of the so called facts that were put in the letter we in the Town received last week. Please be aware there are many inaccuracies in that information. Find out for yourself the other side of the story then make your own decision as to what is best for the Town of Vernon.

As a former citizen of the Village of Big Bend and now the Town of Vernon I am ashamed of this Town Board for not having the accurate information regarding the Fire Department issues. The Fire Department isn't really the issue here - this is about all the annexations going on in the Town and the Town Board is now going to punish the Village of Big Bend. Perhaps it's time to look at re-joining the Village as one entire community to protect our borders and magically all these problems would be solved. Or maybe a slight modification could be made to the Town and Village Ordinance regarding this Fire Department instead of choosing to split the two communities at what price to the Town of Vernon taxpayers.

I agree with Ms. Bronk...As a Village Trustee, I can't speak for our board, only for myself, but I would be happy to comment on basically every bullet point contained in the Town Boards "explanation" to anyone who would be willing to listen...then decide for yourself...but only if you promise to pull the knives out of our backs!
